For a residency at Cal State Fullerton, Sarah celebrates Terry Riley’s ninetieth birthday year and his long friendship with Pauline Oliveros with a recital spanning Riley’s keyboard works from 1964 to 2015. She also performs Riley’s iconic “Tread on the Trail” with the CSUF New Music Ensemble.

Sarah is pre- and post-concert speaker for the San Francisco Symphony performances of Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Egyptian”) with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Debussy’s Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun, and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, conducted by Philippe Jordan. Sarah’s Inside Music Talks will be presented on stage immediately following the Thursday matinee, and one hour before the Friday and Saturday concerts. Free to all ticket holders.

Sarah introduces a new project, No Ordinary Light, combining classical and new compositions on the theme of homage and loss. The title comes from Jawaharalal Nehru's eulogy after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi: "The light has gone out, I said, and yet I was wrong.  For the light that shone in this country was no ordinary light."

The program includes Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin, Samuel Adams' Prelude: Hammer the Sky Bright, Robert Helps' Hommage a Fauré, Zenobia Powell Perry's Homage to William Dawson, Lou Harrison's Fugue to David Tudor and Hommage a Milhaud, Maggi Payne's Holding Pattern, and Danny Clay's Circle Songs.

Robert Ashley and “Blue” Gene Tyranny collaborated for decades, and both were iconic and beloved teachers at the Mills College music department. This concert celebrates their work with Tyranny’s two-piano gems Decertified Highway of Dreams and Letters from Home and Ashley’s Viva’s Boy, along with solo compositions.  Joseph Kubera and Sarah Cahill worked on these scores with both composers, and will perform pieces that Tyranny dedicated to each of them, including The Drifter and Spirit.
